Plagiarism

According to the DCCCD Board Policy Manual, plagiarism is defined as, "the appropriating, buying, receiving as a gift or obtaining by any means another's work and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of it in one's own written work."

This can occur both intentionally or unintentionally, but in either case it constitutes plagiarsm. Plagiarism is easily avoided, one only has to aknowledge the use of another's work or ideas. This is accomplished through citing and documenting one's sources. All borrowed ideas, whether quoted, paraphrased, or summarized must be aknowledged. Many citation formats exist, however, the MLA Format is the most used at Richland College. See How to Avoid Plagiarism for information on the use of the MLA format.
