Steps in the Research Process

  1. Select a topic.
  2. Make sure your topic is not too broad. Your instructor or a librarian can help you narrow your topic.
  3. Brainstorm search terms.
  4. Locate your articles in one of the Library's databases.
  5. Avoid Plagiarism! Cite your sources.

ESOL Reading 0043: The Formal Outline Exit Project

Girl studyingREAD YOUR ASSIGNMENT CAREFULLY! If you do not understand your assignment consult with your professor.

Your assignment requires you to find an academic article on a topic studied in college courses. Your article might be about a topic in politics, history, health, environment, science, economics, business, etc. Since these topics are very broad, think about a very specific topic within these areas.  Each article must be at least 6 pages.

Follow the "Tabs" at the top of this Guide to lead you through the steps in selecting a topic and finding an appropriate article for your project.
