Every day we face differing opinions, unresolved issues, and negotiations.  The ability to make informed decisions, as well as persuade or convince others are vital skills.  We must also be able to listen to the opinions of others and their arguments.

With the Argument/Persuasive speech or essay you are demonstrating that

1. You can impartially analyze a problem or controversy.
2.  Develop your own informed opinion.
3.  You can state facts and evidence that support your opinion or viewpoint.

The purpose of your speech or essay may be to seek support for a proposed solution to a problem, convince your audience to do something, or simply persuade others to share your opinion.  These are skills that are important for everyday life, not just for assignments or formal debates.
